Farmhouse, late C18. Brick with tiled roof. 3 storeys, 3 bays with
symmetrical facade. Central doorway with C19 porch. Sash windows with
brick heads. Stone string course above ground floor. 3 storey wing to
left, of one bay.
Sir George Beaumont lived here for a while during the rebuilding of the
hall. William and Dorothy Wordsworth were visitors here between 1806-8,
and Wordsworth wrote his sonnet on the conquest of Switzerland by Napoleon
here.
David Wilkie painted 'The Blind Fiddler' in the kitchen.
