Includes No.1 Charter Lane and railings in front.
School and attached master's house, dated 1858. Sandstone rubble roofs
of hexagonal slates; 3 ridge-chimneys, 2 part-corbelled side wall chimneys,
one gable chimney at rear. T-shaped plan modified by slightly later
addition of hall in angle at rear. All in Gothic style, with steeply-pitched
roofs. School is rectangular, single storey, 4 bays long and has in both
gables a large arched 3-light window with reticulated tracery; the east gable
is continued to form a bellcote; 4 rectangular windows in side wall. At west
end is a square privy house entirely in keeping and steeply gabled. At right
angles to school is a range composed of porch and the master's house which
is 2 bays (stepped back) and 2 storeys; this has in the centre a steeply
gabled porch in style matching the school, and 2 rectangular windows on
each floor, all with splayed reveals and stone mullions, those at ground
floor being much taller (that on the left has 3 lights, others 2 lights).
Included in the item are iron railings in front of house, which have fleur-de-lys
heads. The item matches in style Christ Church (q.v.).
