GV II
Pair of houses, probably once one, late C17th. Sandstone rubble with roof
of stone slate and slate. 2 storeys with attic. No. 17 (at the left) has
a 3-light mullioned window with inner hollow chamfer and outer chamfer on
each floor, the ground-floor one having a hood. To the right is a chamfered
door surround with triangular head. Chimney on left-hand gable, which has
a 3-light chamfered attic window. No. 19 also has a 3-light mullioned
window with inner hollow chamfer and outer chamfer on each floor, the
ground-floor one having a hood. The door, to the left, has a moulded
surround with re-tooled triangular head. Both houses have stone gutter
corbels. To the right, beyond a chimney, is a one-bay extension of c.1800
which projects forward, being of coursed sandstone with chamfered quoins
and moulded cornice. The windows have architraves and there is a stack
on the gable. At the rear No. 17 has a former 4-light window, similar
to those on the front, on each floor. The ground-floor one has been cut
through by a door and has one mullion remaining, the 1st floor one has
one mullion missing. No. 19 has a similar complete window on the
1st floor and a C19th doorway on the ground floor. To the right is a
stair window with plain reveals, a semi-circular plain stone head now
being filled.
