Tomb chest, early C19. Sandstone chest with clasping pilasters supporting
the lid. The pilasters are decorated with a fret pattern in low relief.
The lid appears to have been topped with a stone surround, of which no more
than a sort of pediment at the east end survives. Edward King was,
according to the inscription,the Vice Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster;
the inscription continues:
Reader, inquire no more
but
Go and do thy Duty
His widow died in 1816.
