House, late C17th. Sandstone rubble with stone slate roof. 2 storeys. Front
wall mostly covered by later lean-to addition. To its left is one bay with a
2-light chamfered mullioned window on the ground floor and a similar modern
copy above. To the left, beyond a straight joint, is a further bay with a
2-light chamfered mullioned window on the 1st floor and a door with plain
reveals below. End chimneys. At the rear are chamfered mullioned windows,
irregularly spaced. At the left is a one-light fire window, then one bay with
2-light windows, then a former stair window, and a further bay with 2-light
windows. At the right, beyond a straight joint, is one bay having windows
with plain reveals. Inside, the right-hand room has a modern beam replacing a
firehood bressummer, and a shouldered fireplace of C18th type with a recess
for a spice cupboard to its left. A blocked door in the front wall suggests a
possible end-lobby-entry plan. On the 1st floor there is one central upper
cruck truss, the feet being tied by a ground-floor ceiling beam. The house is
unusual in that it follows the local 2-cell plan with dressed stone windows,
but is very small and has a 1st floor partly within the roof space. The
straight joints suggest that it was added to the barn, one bay of which was
converted to form part of the house in the mid C18th. The barn appears to
have been extended from right to left twice. At the far left, and of the
latest build, is a wide entrance with segmental head. To its right is a
blocked C17th one-light window, then 2 doors with plain reveals. Further
right, and of the earliest build, is a tall entrance with timber lintel.
Inside this section are 2 tie beam trusses.
