7/17 Higher Moor Head Farmhouse and
2-5-1968 barn adjoining to east
- II
House, probably mid C18th and C19th with C17th remains, and barn probably
late C18th. Sandstone rubble with stone slate roof. 2 storeys, 4 bays.
Left-hand bay added and has sashed windows with plain stone surrounds. The
2nd bay has a ground-floor window whose chamfered jambs are of C18th type. On the 1st floor is a window with plain stone surround. The 1st floor
window of the 3rd bay is similar. The 4th bay has windows with chamfered
surrounds of C18th type. The gabled porch, in the 3rd bay, has an outer
door with long-and-short jambs and an inner door with plain stone
surround. In line with the right-hand side of the porch is a straight
joint. Chimneys on left-hand gable and to right of porch. Interior has
baffle entry in line with the hearth. One of the boxed ceiling beams is in
the correct position to have been a firehood bressumer, suggesting a C17th
origin for the house. The barn, adjoining to the right, has left-hand
doorway with plain reveals and a re-set C17th chamfered triangular head.
Further right is a door with plain stone surround. At the upper level are
2 pitching doors with plain reveals. Further right is a wide entrance with
steel lintel. At the right the wider shippon end projects forwards and has
an opening with plain reveals in is front wall. The right-hand gable has a
coping with kneelers. The gable wall has 2 shippon doors with
long-and-short jambs. Between them is a small window with plain reveals.
Above is a pitching hole.
