Two houses, 1694 and probably C18th. Sandstone rubble with stone slate
roof. 2 storeys with attic. No. 72, at the right, has a drip course, is of
3 bays and has rebated and chamfered windows, mostly with mullions
removed. The outer bays on the ground floor have one central mullion
remaining in each window. At the left is a fire window of 2 lights with
flat-faced mullion: this was transferred from the rear of the house during
C2Oth alterations. The door, in the central bay, has a moulded surround
and a lintel inscribed: 'TWM 1694'. End chimneys. No. 71 adjoins at the
left and was altered in the early C20th: old photographs show it with a
1st floor doorway. It is of 2 bays and has windows with plain reveals. The
door, between bays, has plain reveals. Re-set above its lintel is a
moulded lintel inscribed: 'CW 1704'. Left-hand gable chimney. Inside, No.
72 has a firehood bressumer with heck post and shouldered C18th stone
fireplace. The right-hand room has a bolection-moulded stone parlour
fireplace. No. 71 included for group value only.
