Farmhouse. Late C17 with early C18 extension and C20 alterations at rear.
Painted roughcast rubble walls, under graduated greenslate roof with brick
chimney stacks. 2 storeys, 2 bays with left single-bay extension under common
roof. Off-centre C20 door in plain opening; blocked doorway to the immediate
left and rendered over. 3-light chamfered stone-mullioned windows and right
small firewindow. Extension has sash windows in C18 painted stone surrounds.
Rear has one small chamfered-surround window in extension but otherwise C20
windows in plain reveals. Interior has 2-light flat stone-mullioned window in
the original left return wall. Inglenook complete with firebeam, heck
partition, brick bread oven and spice cupboard with C17 panelled door. Salt
cupboard recess was uncovered by present owner and blocked up again. Other C17
ceiling beams and C18 beams in extension. Mentioned in RCHM, Westmorland, 1936,
p.222.
