Stables and stable/granary range. c1787 for George Stovin of Tetley Hall
(qv), with early C19 addition. Red-brown brick with ashlar dressings.
Pantile roofs. L-shaped on plan: single-room stable/granary with single-
room stable at right angles to south, and later single-room addition to
west. Stable/granary range, north side: 2 storeys, 2 first-floor openings.
Entrance to left with cambered brick arch with chamfered ashlar keystone and
quoins to top, base and centre of jambs, board door; round-headed opening to
right with slatted wooden ventilator beneath keyed brick arch. First floor:
round-headed door to right, rectangular opening to left with 2 rows of
pigeon holes beneath wooden hood. Stepped and cogged brick eaves cornice.
Stone-coped gables with shaped kneelers. South stable range to right:
single storey with attic, single window. Round-headed doorway to right with
chamfered ashlar keystone and quoins to top, base and centre of jambs,
round-headed opening to left with slatted ventilator beneath keyed brick
arch; inserted hatch to left; dentilled brick eaves cornice; small attic
opening beneath stone-coped gable with shaped kneelers. Low 2-storey
western addition to left has cart entrance beneath timber lintel, dentilled
brick eaves cornice, hipped roof. South side of stable/granary has blocked
doorway with ashlar quoins and keystone. Similar in style and materials to
the former stable range to the south which bears wrought-iron letters "G S"
and incomplete date "178-".
