Parson's house,now partly used as a school. Built shortly
after Chowbent Chapel (q.v.) 1721. Flemish bond brick with
stone dressings and slate roof. 3-bay 2-storey central-
staircase plan. Deep projecting stone plinth, stone quoins
and stone eaves gutter brackets. Studded door with overlight
is centrally placed and has a stone lintel with rusticated
voussoirs. Obtrusive C19 bay windows obscure the ground
floor to either side. 3 closely placed first floor windows
with stone sills, keystone wedge lintels, 2 C20 casements
and a Victorian sash. Gable chimney stacks. 2 gable attic
lights (one blocked) with elliptical-arched heads. Lean-to
addition to rear which has an arched stair window. The
school which adjoins to the right is not included in this
entry. Interior: dogleg stair has a deep handrail, turned
balusters on closed string and square newel posts with plain
caps. King-post roof trusses. The parson used one room as a
school room in the C18, a use which has continued to the
present day despite C18 and C19 school buildings which were
added to increase its accommodation.
