House. C17 or earlier timberframed building of 2 bays refronted in C20.
Exterior is of modern brown brick in English bond with plain tiled roof. 2
storeys and attics, 2 windows. 2 modern gabled dormers with casement windows.
1st floor has 2 triple casements, ground floor has 1 double and one triple
casement. Simple right hand doorcase. Rear elevation has weatherboarded
gable. Internally the ground floor has a C17 chamfered spine beam and a
probable blocked-in inglenook fireplace and a stair cupboard with pintle hinges
with 2 C17 boards to the door. Gunstock jowled corner posts and early C18
doors. Attic has C18 beams and pegged rafters. Party wall to No. 2 on the 1st
floor has C16 or earlier curved tension braces. No. 2 formed the western bay
and crosswing to the original house. (See Rape of Hastings Architectural
