15/9 Hornhill Farmhouse

GV II

Farmhouse. Probably late C16. Regular coursed lias with thatch roof. 5-unit plan
with flanking cross wings. 2 storeys with attic. 5-window range of C19 casements
under wood lintels; that on the return wall of the left cross wing has leaded
lights. C20 glazed door to right of centre and, plank and braced door to left.
Each cross wing breaks forward; that to left has brick gable wall and that to
right has been heightened in brick. Gabled roof with brick stacks at ridge and
end. Side elevations similar. Rear elevation has series of C19 lean-to's. The
cross wing gable to the left has exposed timber framing with plaster infill to
gable end. 3-light casement has some leaded lights. Single roof dormer.
Interior: Entrance hall has open fireplace with chamfered bressumer and
chamfered and stopped ceiling beam. Centre room has evidence of an open
fireplace. Some chamfered beams to first floor rooms. Butt purlin roof
structure; some curved wind braces visible in the right cross wing.
