Terraced town houses. c.1773-74 Portland Estate development probably by
John White in partnership with the plasterer Thomas Collins (associates of
Sir William Chambers). Stock brick with stuccoed ground floors; concealed
slate roofs. 4 storeys and basements. 3-window wide fronts.
Semicircular arched doorways to right; panelled doors, sidelights and
fanlights composed as Venetian windows. Recessed sashes, under flat gauged
arches to upper floors. Stuccowork finished off with plat band. Parapets
with copings, No. 69 with stucco dentil cornice below parapet. Cast iron
balconies mid C.19 to No. 69 and early C.19 to No. 71. Cast iron area
railings with plumbed spike finials. Fine interiors with top lit
geometrical stone staircases with wrought iron balustrades, delicate
plasterwork ceilings and friezes, stucco mythological medallions to
overmantels; statuary marble chimneypieces; mahogany doors etc.
