House. Circa 1690. Chequer brick with vitreous headers, chamfered stone
plinth, flush stone quoins, stone gable copings, plain blue tile roof and brick
chimney. U-plan, with later extension set back to left. 2 storeys and attic; 3
bays, the outer bays gabled and projecting with high transoms and C20 horizon-
tal glazing bars. Attics have smaller 2-light casements of similar type but
without transoms. All these windows were formerly leaded and have painted stone
wedge lintels with keyblocks. Flanking central window and in inner returns of
gabled bays are traces of narrow blocked lights. Central C19 door with pair of
arched glazed panels and rusticated stone surround, painted, with voussoir head
and cornice. This surround is very similar to doorcase at No 2 Clements Gate
(qv). C19 single-storey brick extension set back to left. Interior has ovolo-
moulded cross beams in front ground floor room of right wing, old 6-panel doors
in architrave frames to main floors, and old board doors to attic. Staircase in
left wing cuts across fenstration and has roll-moulded handrail and stick
balusters, partly renewed.
