House; (incorrectly called "the Elms" on O.S. map) 1827;
yellow brick, with ashlar dressings, hipped slate
roof with 2 ridge brick stacks and overhanging eaves cornice. 2
storey 3 bay front with deep ashlar plinth and 1st floor band.
The 1/2 glazed central double doors are up 4 steps, and have
bordered glazing bar lights and a 4 pane overlight. The door
surround is moulded and in panelled reveals and has flanking
columns supporting a full entablature. To either side are tall
glazing bar sashes. The first floor has 3 glazing bar sashes.
All windows have flat brick arches and very thin glazing bars.
The interior has very fine moulded cornices, in the dining room
decorated with roses, and in the drawing room with flower and
fruit decoration. Both principal rooms have contemporary marble
fireplaces. The hall has moulded architraves with decorated
angle squares of 4 acorns and oak leaves. The stair has slender
moulded balusters and moulded strings and over the stairs is a
domed glazed lantern with a concave moulding decorated with
acanthus leaf. Between the top landing and the 1st floor rooms
are 2 elliptical arches, and the stair and hall walls are lined
with large moulded plaster panels.
