Farmhouse. Mid C17, restored 1846 and with later C19
alterations. Coursed and squared ironstone and brick with
limestone ashlar dressings and steep pitched Swithland slate
roofs. Chamfered plinth, coped gables with kneelers and finials,
2 paired coped stone gable stacks, large plain gable stack, C20
ridge stack. 2 and 3 storeys, 4 bays. Cross plan. West front
has an off-centre 2 storey porch with a moulded round headed
doorway with diamond keystone and square hood mould. Above it, a
2 light mullioned casement, and above again, an oval window. To
its right, a set back bay with a blocked window and above, a
cross mullioned casement with a flat hood. Beyond, to left, a
set back 2 storey parapeted bay with a 2 light cross mullioned
casement on each floor. Beyond again, a gabled 3 storey wing
with a 2 light mullioned casement on each floor and an oval
window in the gable peak. In the return angle to south, a 2
light mullioned casement on the third floor. South elevation
has, to left, projecting 2 storey wing with a C19 3 light
mullioned and transomed casement. Above, 2 two light mullioned
casements, all with flat hoods. South gable has a C19 4 light
cross mullioned casement and above, on each floor, 2 small
chamfered casements, all with flat hoods. In the gable peak, an
oval window. East side has an off-centre 2 storey gabled porch
with moulded round headed doorway and hood mould plaster vaulted
porch chamber and blocked Tudor arched inner doorway. Above, a 2
light mullioned casement on each floor, and in the gable peak, an
oval window. To left of porch, a set back bay with a blocked
window and above, a cross casement. To right of porch, set back
2 storey parapeted bay with a 4 light cross mullioned casement.
Above, to left, a C19 casement, and to right a cross casement
with a flat hood. Beyond, to right, a 3 storey gabled wing with
a cross casement. Above, a blocked cross casement and above
again, a blocked mullioned casement. In the gable peak, a
blocked oval window. Beyond again, a late C19 range with a C20
casement. Rear has, to left, late C19 additions with off-centre
gabled porch, with close boarded door and overlight, flanked to
left by 2 C19 cross casements and beyond, a lean-to porch.
Beyond, to right, a glazing bar sash with a wooden lintel.
Above, to left, a sliding sash. Above again, to left, main north
gable with a mullioned casement and above it, a similar casement.
To right, a blocked oval window.
