Farmhouse. C15, with C17 alterations and C19 facade. Timber framed.
Ground floor red and grey brick in Flemish bond, first floor tile-
hung. Exposed framing with rendered infilling to first floor of left
return and to rear gable end of right wing. Plain tile roof. Open
hall of 2 timber-framed bays, with 2-bay cross-wing to left
projecting to rear and very slightly to front. Integral cross-wing to
right of approximately 2 bays, projecting to rear only. 2 storeys and
attic. Exposed framing of relatively thin scantling with straight
tension brace to first floor of left return. Broadly-spaced studding
with arch braces to rear of right wing. Roof hipped to left and
right, hips returning to rear. Flat roof to projecting front of left
wing. Dormer to right hip. Slender projecting red and grey brick
stack to left gable end, rear brick stack to left, and filleted red
and grey brick stack to narrower left hall bay (to junction of hall
and left wing). Irregular fenestration of 3 tripartite sashes, one to
each wing and one to right hall bay. Blocked doorway under stack.
Later extension to rear of left wing. Rear lean-to to hall, with
door. Interior: moulded right end-of-hall beam over partition of
broadly-spaced studs. Partition above it with central stud and
tension braces. Cambered central-truss tie-beam set much lower than
wall-plates of wings; hall wall-plates raised in C17 or later.
Gunstock-jowled posts to wings. C15 partition with studs, tension
braces and plain integral doorway under central tie-beam of left
wing. Chamfered C17 axial beam and plain brick fireplace to ground
floor of right hall bay. Side-purlin roof with re-used timbers.
