Lower Stoford Farmhouse

Cottage. C16, restored mid C20. Red sandstone random rubble, rendered North front, thatched roof, stone stack West end.
Two cell, side entrance plan. South front: single storey and attic, irregular fenestration all C20 2-light casements
with glazing bars; 2 dormers, one window to right of C20 French windows, two to left. Original entrance was on right
return elevation (West end), now blocked with a window, between fireplace and stair bay, latter lit by small square
headed opening on North front. Interior: solid oak winder stair to left of original entrance, perhaps C16, moulded
wooden lintel to fireplace, bread oven. Framed ceiling of four compartments with hollow chamfered beams. Four centreed
arch doorway at head of the stairs, one pair of jointed crucks exposed. (VAG Report, unpublished SRO, March 1973).
