Parish church. C13 tower, chancel rebuilt 1841,vestry added 1869-70,church refenestrated
and extensively restored.Mid C19 work by Edward Ashworth. Red sandstone random rubble,
slate roofs, decorative ridge tiles, coped verges to porch only. West tower, 2 bay nave,
South East chapel now organ chamber adjoining South porch, chancel and vestry. 3 stage
tower with parapet, originally gabled, diagonal buttresses, string courses, chamfered
plinth, 2-light trefoil headed louvred bell-openings, rectangular louvred opening on
South front,3-light West window lancet in South wall of nave,single storey gabled porch
with kneelers, moulded pointed arch opening, pointed moulded inner doorway, C19 door,
C19 wagon roof, nave roof continued as catslide over one bay chapel right, 2-light
window, chancel 3-light trefoil headed mullioned window left of priest's door, lancet
right, 3-light East Window, single storey vestry to North,2-light window on North wall
of chancel, 2 on North wall of nave. Interior: rendered except for random rubble West
wall. Tower arch chamfered in 2 orders dying into inposts, chancel arch of wood
corbelled out, depressed moulded Tudor arch to chapel. C19 ribbed barrel vaulted roofs
in nave and chancel, chamfered lateral beams in chapel, Pulpit composed of bench ends
reset when church reseated mid C19. C16 painted wall tablet with kneeling figures to
Hadley family in chancel.Coloured tile dado in sanctuary, dating like the other fittings
from 1869. (A Guided Tour of Heathfield Church Somerset, 1981).
