Terrace of 3 storey 5 window brown brick fronts. 1788-9O when the street was laid
out by Sir Benjamin Hammet (MP for Taunton, Keeper of the Castle etc). The properties
are divided by plain pilasters. Continuous eaves cornice. Old tile roofs. Sash
windows in plain reveals, some glazing bars missing. Painted stone doorcases with
half round Tuscan pilasters, open pediments and traceried fanlights. 6-panel doors
(4 panels to No 9: no pane's to No 10 ). 2 small shop windows inserted in No 9.
Insurance plaque to No 12. Side of No 9 has 3 windows and forms tort of the west
side of Church Square.
All the listed buildings in Hammet Street together with St Mary Magdalene Church and
the listed buildings in Church Square form an extremely important group.
