Part of the Taunton Castle complex, formerly a gatekeeper's house. Large red brick
house with passage into the castle grounds. Late C18/early C19, altered about
l860. 3 storeys. Pantile roof, projecting eaves. Large brick stacks set diagonally
on left gable. Stringcourse over ground floor. 2 windows per storey. Mostly
3-light casements (some leading in upper storey) under cambered heads. Windows
now (1974) boarded up. Brick archway to right with roll moulding and segmental
head. Ashlar keystone with finely carved Wyvern. Wrought-iron gate. Inside passageway
are 3 C19 chamfered beams. Corbels supporting middle beam have good early C13 stiff-leaf
foliage, that on north side being a fine copy of the 'toothache man' from the south
transept capital at Wells Cathedral. Single-light traceried window in left wall.
and wrought-iron gate inside which formerly gave into the Castle grounds. An interesting
building which has a significant place in the recent history of the Castle.

Ina Cottage forms a group with all the listed buildings on Castle Green.
