Post office. 1911, by Arthur Rutherford; built by Pollard and Son of Bridgewater. English bond red brick and Portland stone ashlar. Roof concealed behind parapet. Service hall at front with entrances to left and right and carriageway to rear on the left. Renaissance style. Three storeys, 1:1:4:1 bay front, bays two and seven advanced. Ashlar ground floor with five tall metal-frame windows to the service hall with Ionic pilasters, flanked by projecting doorways with bolection architraves, large keystone inscribed POST OFFICE in cornice and semi-circular fanlight above with flush rusticated arch and large keystone supporting apron of window above. The apron and pilasters of the centre windows have tassel drops. The carriageway on the left has a plain segmental arch with a large keystone and iron gates. Above, first floor windows have fifteen-pane sashes and second floor has twelve-pane sashes, all with keystones in flat arches and moulded cills with small aprons; the projecting bays have stone quoins. Moulded stone cornice with paired modillions and brick parapet with stone coping.

INTERIOR: Later suspended ceiling in the service hall.

The Post Office was built on the site of the Spread Eagle Inn.
