GV II
Detached farmhouse. Later C17. Ham stone rubble, with ashlar dressings, but first floor has stretcher bond brickwork
probably protecting cob; double Roman clay tiled roof between high coped gables, suggesting former thatch; one brick
and one stone end chimney stack. Two storeys, 3-bay south elevation at right angles to road. Below, ovolo-mould
mullioned windows of 4 lights, with labels, and above are 3-light casement windows of early pattern, all
rectangular-leaded; to lower bay 2 a boarded door with glazed panel set in, on heavy frame, with plain stone slab hood
on shaped stone brackets. In east gable a C20 mullioned window and several casements; to rear an outshut which appears
to be part of original structure. Interior not seen, but reported are timber-framed partitions between front and
outshut sections, showing carpenters numbers; traces of original north-east gable stair surviving at attic level;
collar-beam trusses with mortice and tenon apex and shaped collar ends, trenched purlins: rear wall has irregular plan.
known as Court House in the C19, this may well represent the medieval court house of the manor, albeit restyled. (VCH,
Vol III, 1974; VAG Report, SRO Unpublished, February 1977).
