5/96 Nobridge Farmhouse
II
Mid-to late C18 incorporating C17 core. Red brick with plain tile
roof. 3 storeys. Plat band between ground and first floors, projecting
eaves and parapeted gable ends with chamfered stone copings and moulded
red sandstone kneelers. Brick ridge stack off-centre to right and
integral brick end stack to left. Baffle-entry 3-cell plan. 1-:2-
:2- window front; glazing bar sashes with painted stone cills and lintels.
Half-glazed door between second and third windows off-centre to right
with early C19 surround consisting of pilasters, frieze and cornice,
and bracketed hood. Each gable end with 2 plat bands. Kitchen wing
at rear with integral brick end stack; coach house and stables returning
with plat band and integral lateral stack. Interior: central ground-
floor room has large open C17 fireplace with ogee-stopped chamfered
wooden lintel. Small salt cupboard to left has C18 door with single
raised and fielded panel. C18 dog-leg staircase behind stack, rising to attic,
with closed string, turned balusters, moulded handrail and square foot
newel. Old door beneath staircase with H-hinges. Back bedroom has
reused C17 door with carved lozenges. C17 plank and muntin doors and
other old doors. Pegged door frames. Old oak floorboards. Some
windows with panelled shutters. Cased ground-floor beams. Second-
floor rooms with evidence of C17 roof line. The top floor appears
to have been added when the house was rebuilt in the C18.
