Shown on O.S. map as Stanwardine Farmhouse.
Farmhouse. Probably late C17 or early C18, partly remodelled late C18
or early C19 with minor later additions and alterations. Narrow red
brick (random bond) to left with larger red brick to right of straight
joint; eaves raised in third type of brick to earliest part except for
far left, which probably represents breadth of original end stack; graded
slate roof. Original house of three bays with full-height gabled projection
to rear forming T-plan, extended to right in late C18 or early C19 at
which time, or a little later, the eaves of the original building were
raised to the same height as the extension. Two and three storeys and attic.
three widely spaced windows, all late C18/early C19 three-light casements,
those to first floor directly below eaves and remainder segmental-headed
including extra window between ground and first floor to right. Three
early C19 gabled dormers in middle of roof slope. Mid-C19 gabled brick
porch between left and centre windows with plain C20 door (possibly over
earlier panelled door) and semi-circular fanlight. Infilled doorway
immediately to left of right casement with straight joint to left.
External end stack to left with dentilled band to top of base and two detached
diagonal shafts; ridge stack in line with straight joint formerly an end
stack and integral end stack to right. Gabled projection to rear on
left probably houses staircase and 2-storey mid-C19 red brick addition
in angle to rear has central ridge stack. Single-storey twin-gabled
mid-C19 addition to right gable end. Interior. Inspection not possible
at time of resurvey (January 1987) but likely to be of interest. C20
red brick lean-to attached to rear of 2-storey mid-C19 addition is not
of special architectural interest.
