Description

ST5516SE YEOVIL CP SILVER STREET

5/6 The East boundary wall and two
flights of steps to the
Churchyard of St John Baptist

-

GV II

Wall, probably middle C19 coinciding with the main restoration of the Church.
Local stone, cut and squared and laid to random courses, of stepped character
rising to about 4 metres in places. Heavy angled plinth and piers with offsets,
triangular roll-moulded coping. Steps at North end serving Church Terrace, and
also near South East corner of Churchyard and Church Street, with simple piers
with moulded capitals. This wall, with the steps, is not only part of the Church
scene but also an essential part of the scene of Silver Street.
