Farmhouse, now restaurant. Late C17 with considerable later additions and
alterations, principally of late C19 and C20. Timber framed with painted
brick infill and additions, machine tile roofs. Original plan of hall with
cross-wing to north, triple-gabled late C19 addition at right-angles behind
cross-wing with C20 extension at right-angles to south-east corner of hall
range. One storey and attic; framing: much renewed with planting and
painted brick in imitation; exposed to north gable of cross-wing with
an apparently re-used cruck blade to north-west corner; framing also
exposed on small gable projecting through roof on north side of hall range,
date 1673 painted on collar; irregular fenestration, all late C19 and C20
casements, one of 3 lights to left and 2 canted bay windows to right on south
side of hall with 2 gabled eaves dormers above; canted bay window on ground
floor of C20 south-east projection with 3-light casement above; red brick
ridge stack to left of hall range with octagonal shafts and moulded capping
and prominent external stack to gable of cross-wing, ridge and external
lateral stacks to C19 additions. Interior: some timber frame (square
panels) exposed to ground floor, chamfered ceiling beams. C19 and C20
additions are not of special architectural interest.
