Farmhouse. Probably part C14 or C15, re-modelled in early C17 and again in
mid-C19. Reddish-brown brick and uncoursed limestone rubble, roughcast to
rear, probably concealing timber frame, plain tile and slate roofs. Earliest
part is probably the cross-wing to west, which may be of cruck construction;
long hall range to left added in early C17 and a twin-gabled addition to rear
in mid-C19, when a low-pitched roof was constructed over the remainder.
2 storeys, dentilled eaves cornice, cellar beneath cross-wing; irregular
fenestration, segmental-headed 3-light late C19 casements, one on each floor
to left and to central mid-C19 gabled projection, with a small casement to
right over a late C19 lean-to with a blocked doorway; one 3-light casement
on each floor to cross-wing; 4-panel door with bracketed hood to right of
cross-wing with mid-C20 half-glazed door immediately to left of centre gable;
ridge stack to right of hall range and end stack to left; integral lateral
stack to cross-wing. Interior: not inspected, but what may be part of a
cruck truss is said to be preserved in the cross-wing cellar; a "curved
tree" is said to have been found during repairs to the house in early C20.
