House. Early to mid-C18 with mid-to late C19 remodelling. Red brick
with yellow/grey Grinshill sandstone ashlar dressings; slate roofs.
2 storeys and 2 storeys and attic. Raised chamfered quoins, chamfered
plinth, chamfered plat band, moulded stone eaves cornice, and three C19
gabled eaves dormers consisting of sashes and casements with chamfered
rusticated stone surrounds, and moulded barge boards; external C19
brick end stacks with stone dressings and cornices. 3 bays; plate-
glass sashes to first floor with stone cills and chamfered stone lintels
with raised triple keystones; two C19 ground-floor canted stone bays
with plate-glass sashes, chamfered rustication, moulded cornice and
blocking course. 4 stone steps up to central C19 four-panelled door
with large rectangular overlight, moulded reveals, and C19 ashlar Tuscan
porch consisting of columns and pilasters without entasis, frieze,
moulded cornice and blocking course. Two-storey service wing set back
to left with quoins, chamfered plinth, plat band, moulded eaves cornice
and brick ridge stack. 1 + 3 bays; plate glass sashes with keyed
chamfered lintels; recessed porch to right with depressed rusticated
stone arch and C19 half-glazed door behind. C18 eaves line visible in
brickwork in left-hand gable end. C19 gabled wing and other additions
at rear. Interior: C18 staircase, 3 flights with landings, rising to
attic, with open string and cut brackets, turned balusters (2 per tread),
turned newel posts, moulded ramped handrail, curtail with turned newel
post, and C19 matchboarded wainscot; curved attic landing. Beaded
flat-archway to rear corridor adjacent to staircase on ground floor,
supported on paired inverted volutes with husk festoons between. Other
interior decorations and fittings largely C19 including moulded cornices
etc.
