House. Early C17 and C18 with mid-C19 partial remodelling and addition.
Timber framed with painted brick nogging, partly rebuilt in dressed
red and yellow Grinshill sandstone; slate roof. L-plan; 3 bays aligned
approximately east-west with addition to south-east. One storey and
attic and 2 storeys. Dressed grey sandstone stacks with moulded cornices;
on ridge off-centre to west, integral lateral to north-east and integral
gable end to south-east. Gabled semi-dormer to north-east with 2-light
wooden casement. North front (at right-angles to road): central first-
and ground-floor 2-light wooden casements; half-glazed door off-centre
to left with C19 gabled timber porch. One-storey C20 flat-roofed addition
projecting at right. East front: 2:1 windows; one- and 2-light wooden
casements with raised surrounds and returned hoodmoulds. Moulded eaves
cornice to left and gable to right. Interior: central ground-floor
room has chamfered beams and joists with ogee stops. C17 inglenook
fireplace with moulded lintel and inserted small early C18 fireplace
consisting of shaped surround with triple-keystone; fireplace also
incorporates some reused carving and panelling said to have come from
Hardwick Grange (formerly near Hadnall, now demolished). Corridor and
ground-floor room to east have early C18 plaster cornices with egg
and dart and acanthus enrichment. 6-panelled doors.
