House, latterly divided. Circa 1600 with mid- to late C17, c.1700 and
mid- to late C19 additions. Timber framed with painted brick nogging
on brick plinth; plain tile roofs. Framing: c.1600 large square panels
(3 from sole plate to wall plate) with short straight corner braces;
C18 square panels. Three c.1600 framed bays with c.1700 one-bay addition
to right and C19 additions at rear. 2 storeys and attic with additions
of one storey and attic. Large ridge stack off-centre to left of dressed
grey sandstone below lower parts and red brick above with pilaster shafting
and oversailing top, and external brick end stack to right with pilaster shafting
and oversailing top. Large central mid-C17 full eaves dormer
with 2 tiers of quatrefoil panels above C20 three-light wooden casement
and gable with cable-moulded bressumer, shaped brackets, and small C19
cast-iron lozenge-pattern casement. First-floor C20 two-light wooden
casement to right and 3 ground-floor C20 two-light wooden casements.
Circa 1700 addition to right with C20 two-light wooden casement to front,
and right-hand return front with 2-light C20 attic casement, exposed
collar and tie-beam truss with queen struts and V-struts, and gabled
C19 porch with boarded door. Tie-beam truss in left-hand gable end
with 2 collars, queen struts and V-struts. C19 rear wing remodelled
in late C20 with planted timbers. Main entrance now in rear wing.
interior: chamfered beams and joists with ogee stops. Large open fireplace
with chamfered grey sandstone reveals and chamfered wooden lintel.
Collar and cambered tie-beam trusses with queen struts. Wattle and
daub infill panels.
