Description

CHESWARDINE C.P. ELLERTON
SJ 72 NW
SJ 7205 2559
8/7 The Round House
-
- II

Lodge. Early C19. Uncoursed and squared and coursed red sandstone
with some dressings. Slate roof, resting on posts at each corner. Octagonal
plan. 2 storeys. Integral lateral brick stack to right. First-floor 3-
light octagonal wooden casements to front and to left. Ground-floor 2-
light wooden casements flanking central door with 6 flush panels, plain
surround and bracketed pent hood. It is possible that the first floor is a
later addition (see the more regular masonry with dressings). The peculiar
roofing arrangement is probably also a later alteration or addition. This
was formerly the south-east entrance lodge to Ellerton Hall (not included on
this list.)
