House. Mid- and late C16 (porch dated 1546) with mid-C17 additions.
Timber framed with painted brick nogging on roughly dressed red sandstone
plinth. C20 machine tile roofs. Framing: square panels (3 and 4 from
wall plate to ground plate) with corner braces. Porch with closely-
spaced studs and middle rails, C16 hall range of 2 framed bays, C17
projecting gabled cross wing to right of 2 framed bays, and C16 porch
in angle. One storey and attic over basement with 2-storey porch.
C19 external brick end stack to right of hall range with 4 circular
shafts and C19 external lateral brick-stack at rear with 2 circular
shafts. Raking semi-dormer off-centre to left, altered in mid-C20.
3:1:2 window front; C20 two- and 3-light wooden casements with C20
stepped wooden cills. Timber framed gabled porch consisting of jetted
first floor with moulded bressumer (dated 1546) on shaped brackets and
jettied gable with roll-moulded bressumer on shaped brackets and parallel
diagonal framing. C20 nail-studded boarded door. Collar and
tie-beam end trusses with queen struts and V-struts. One post at rear
of hall range with scotch. Timber framed and brick lean-to at rear
with 6-panelled door. Interior not inspected but chamfered spine beams
noted in cross wing and the owner (April 1986) reports some panelling in
the cross wing and a winder stair.
