6/60 Pair of gate piers approx.
- 40 metres to south-east of
Albrighton Hall
GV II
Pair of gate piers. Probably late C17. Grey sandstone ashlar. Two
square piers, each with moulded plinth, chamfered rustication, moulded
cornice, and concave cap with globe finial. Small projection on inside
face of each pier. No gates at time of survey (January 1987). The piers
are axially placed on the main entrance of Albrighton Hall (q.v.) and were
probably part of the former principal approach to the house, although it is
possible that they may have been moved to this location at a later date,
perhaps in 1885 when the house was enlarged. There are a pair of similar
piers (now moved a short distance from their Former location) near the
south lodge to the house (neither piers or lodge are included on this list).
