- approximately 20m north
of Moat Farmhouse
GV II
Outbuilding, latterly blacksmith's shop, now store. C17 but possibly
incorporating some medieval stonework, later additions and alterations.
Timber framed on gritstone and sandstone rubble plinth, plain tile roof.
L-plan; main range aligned north-west to south-east with gabled range
projecting to south-west, partly reconstructed in mid-C19. 2 levels;
framing: exposed on north side but partly destroyed by C19 lean-to additions;
2 small square panels above dressed sandstone plinth (see below under interior);
north-west bay re-built in C19 red brick; C20 double doors on south side in angle
with gabled projection, fixed-light windows to right, one on first floor and
2 to ground floor; gabled projection has a window in centre to first floor
and a boarded door to left on ground floor, both with segmental heads.
Interior: dressed sandstone plinth (see above) visible to former back wall;
double-purlin roof with raking struts from cambered tie beams supporting
principal rafters; re-used beams in ground floor ceiling, former black-
smith's furnace. Included on the assumption that this was formerly
part of the fortified predecessor to Moat Farmhouse (q.v.).
