later additions and alterations. Timber-framed with painted brick infill,
painted uncoursed limestone rubble and brick painted in imitation of
timber frame; graded slate roofs. Original house apparently a T-plan
consisting of hall range aligned east-west with gabled cross-wing projecting
on west. Cross-wing demolished above tie beam level and incorporated
in larger C19 range aligned east-west, which has contemporary rubblestone
range at right-angles to south. One storey and attic to hall range,
two storeys to C19 range. Framing: hall range has square panels, three from
cill to three wall plate, to front and rear. Light timber frame to C19
range including long straight tension brace on north side. Brick painted
black and white in imitation of timber frame. North side has two C20
fixed-light windows to hall range and C19 casement on each floor to left
of C19 range, which also has small C19 window directly below eaves to
right and C20 fixed-light window on ground floor to right. Red brick
ridge stack with dentilled capping to centre or hall range and similar
stack in two sections to C19 range. Full-height brick lean-to in angle
between ranges and C19 brick lean-to to rear of hall range.
INTERIOR.
Hall range has chamfered spine beam and heavy joists to left ground-
floor room. Large central stack with infilled inglenook fireplace.
Dairy to right front room. Oak winder staircase to first floor which
has wide boarded oak floor boards and collar and tie beam truss to left.
Higher range has chamfered ceiling beams on ground floor dating from
original cross-wing. Exposed principal rafter and collar of roughly
central collar and tie-beam truss (visible on first floor) shows that
the range incorporates the substantial remains of a gabled cross wing
aligned north-south.
