Farmhouse. Probably early C17 with later additions and alterations.
Roughcast timber frame with red brick infill on rendered brick plinth;
slate roof. Basic L-plan comprising hall range of 2½ framed bays
with baffle entry to left and flush 2-bay gabled cross-wing projecting
to rear on left. Early C20 four-paned sash windows throughout, one
to first floor of gable with two narrow windows below to centre. Hall
range has two paired sashes to ground floor and one in gabled eaves dormer
directly above. Six-panel door to left (top panels now glazed) under
flat-roofed trellised porch. Late C19 purple brick ridge stack directly
above. Left return of cross wing has gable to right and gabled eaves
dormer to left. Two 4-paned sashes directly below in rendered shaped
surrounds with projecting keystones. Six-panel door (top panels now
glazed) in plain pilastered doorcase with bracketed gabled hood.
C19 gabled and lean-to additions in angle to rear. INTERIOR. Chamfered
ceiling beams in ground-floor rooms. Main staircase has stick balusters,
open string and wreathed handrail; subsidiary straight-flight oak
staircase to right of hall range. Timber frame mostly plastered over at
time of resurvey (October 1986) but collar and tie-beam truss visible
to gable end of hall range and partly exposed to gable of cross-wing.
Single purlins and short straight windbraces. Wide boarded oak floor
boards to first floor. Brick and sandstone-walled cellar to front
of cross wing.
