Two barns, horse engine house, pigsties, cowhouse, linhay and former cow-
house and vehicle entrance. Mid-C18 to mid-C19 with later alterations.
Red brick to barns and cowhouse, barn associated with horse engine house
partly with weatherboarded timber frame. Uncoursed limestone rubble
to former cowhouse flanking road and roughly coursed limestone rubble
to horse engine house; corrugated iron cladding to hay-loft of linhay
on south side. Slate and corrugated iron roofs. Buildings are grouped
around farmyard of Pentreheylin Hall (q.v.) with former cowhouse and
vehicle entrance flanking road. Barn and lower cowhouse aligned north-
east to south-west with second barn attached at right-angles to south-
east. Horse engine house with pigsties adjoining to south-east in
angle between. Linhay attached to north-west end of second barn has
former cowhouse at right-angles to south-west at north end (adjoining
road) with vehicle entrance to south-west.

Barn and lower cowhouse.
Barn on two levels with X-shaped air vents flanking lozenge-shaped air
vent to left of centre. Boarded door to right approached by external
lateral steps. Segmental-headed doorway to left of centre flanked
by infilled square-headed openings with wooden lintels and inserted
C20 windows. Cowhouse, also on two levels, has eaves hatches alternating
with lozenge-shaped air vents on first floor and infilled 4-bay opening
with continuous wooden lintel and inserted doorways on ground floor.
Segmental-headed doorway to far right. Polygonal horse-engine house
is open on east: pigsties attached. Second barn has lozenge and X-
shaped air vents on both sides and to south-east gable end, which has
segmental-headed opening on first floor. Linhay has seven open bays to
ground floor divided by cast-iron columns and two hatches above. Former
cowhouse is open to north-east gable end and has vehicle entrance arch
to opposite end; eaves hatch to left of centre. Interior. Barn attached
to lower cowhouse has queen-strut roof in 5 bays with slightly jowled
wall posts, first truss from south-west with slightly curved principals;
continuous loft. King-post roof in six bays to cowhouse. Horse engine
house has king-post truss. Second barn open to roof in four bays has
mixture of king-post and queen-post trusses with collar and tie beam
truss to north-west gable end. This has timber-framed square and
rectangular panels below continued with long straight tension braces to
wall adjoining engine house in end bay. King-post roofs to linhay
and former cowhouse adjoining road.
