Farmhouse, now house. Probably late C17 or early C18, extended mid-
C18 and C19 with further alterations in mid-C20. Red brick on uncoursed
limestone rubble plinth; slate roofs. 3 storeys with double floor bands
to first and second floors of gabled wings and short dentilled bands above
second-floor windows; dentilled cornices and pointed finials to gables.
1:3:1 windows centre section recessed, all mid-C20 segmental-headed wooden
cross windows with leaded lights, except segmental-headed glazing bar
sash to centre on first floor. C20 triple round-arched porch to centre
over contemporary half-glazed door with flanking 2-light C17 stone mullion
windows. Central external stack to back wall has 2 attached and rebated
shafts of star section with moulded capping; similar shafts to rear lateral
stack to right gabled wing but shaft of front external lateral stack and
lateral stack of left gabled wing have been rebuilt in C20 brick. Mixture
of glazing bar sashes and leaded casements to rear. Mid-C18 hip-roofed
range set back to right has glazing bar sash on first floor to rear and
pedimented French window below. Early to mid-C19 wide gabled single-
storey rubblestone projection in centre to rear has wide tripartite sash
window with cambered head. Late C19 two-storey twin-gabled purple brick
range projecting to right. Service range to left of left gabled wing,
rebuilt in C20 red brick to front, terminates in higher tile-hung square
tower with pyramidal slate cap and weathervane. Interior. Inspection
not possible at time of resurvey (November 1986) but central hall noted
as having ornamental Jacobean panelling and overmantel with grotesque
figures. C17 staircase to left has panelled risers with diamond-shaped
ornament; turned balusters and newel-posts. There is also said to be
C18 panelling in some of the rooms.
