of No.1 The Gassons (not
included)
GV II
Fence. Probably early C19. Limestone slabs, squared and placed on edge in a row,
c.one metre high. These large slabs, known as planks, were quarried locally for
use in fences, stiles, door hoods, and floors, and form a distinctive feature of
the village. Similar slab fences were noted by Robert Plot in his "Natural
History of Oxfordshire", 1677.
