Lodge, now house. Datestone 1845, by Sir Charles Barry; later alterations.
Squared and coursed limestone, with ashlar quoins and dressings; gabled Welsh
slate roof; brick lateral and ridge stacks. L-plan. Italianate style. Two-storey
gable end of left wing has storey band and one 2-light above 2 one-light windows
with semi-circular arched heads. One-storey-and-attic range to right has two
2-light stone-mullioned windows: mullioned windows and entry to rear. Bracketed
eaves. Subsidiary features: limestone ashlar gatepiers and larger rusticated
main-gate piers with bracketed eaves and ball finial flank wrought-iron
pedestrian gates and double carriage gates (possibly c.1900): scrolls to sides
are ramped to low flanking walls, each approximately 20 metres long and finished
by moulded ashlar piers. The lodge and gates were built at the north entrance to
Eynsham Hall (q.v.) when it was remodelled by Barry for the 5th Earl of
Macclesfield.
