Stained glass window, chancel. Jesus teaching. Some highlights of these chancel windows have been leached out by the rain. This was a problem with stained glass of the 1860s and happened because the industrial glassmakers were told they should add alkali oxides to get easily worked glass, at a lower melting temperature. Later in the century, members of the Arts and Crafts movement researched the medieval craftsmens techniques and tried their mixtures, and the problem was solved. (Photo Apr 2008).
