Barn about 30m north
north east of the
Old Rectory
GV
II
Barn. Probably C16. Weatherboarded timber frame on later Flemish bond
brick plinth. Interlocking concrete tile hipped roof.
Plan: Appears to be a 5-bay barn with a threshing bay at the centre. A
floor has been inserted into all but the north east end bay.
Exterior: The south east front has large double doors at the centre and
a small door to the left and right. The north west elevation facing the
road has smaller double doors at the centre, a loft doorway above and a
small window to the right. All are plank doors.
Interior: only partly accessible at time of survey 1989. Walls of
slight scantling studding with long straight tension braces and no mid
rail. The braces from the wall-ports to the tie-beams have been
replaced with curved timber brackets. The roof structure is only
visible at the north east end where there is a tall unchamfered
crown-post with upward curving axial braces to the collar-purlin and
common rafters without a ridge-piece. The other four crown-posts are
expected to survive.
