Country house, now residential home. Mid C18 extended 1880's. Squared coursed
limestone with ashlar dressings and stone slate roof. Originally probably
L-shape plan now complex. 2 storeys with attic. Main front parallel to road is
C18 of 5-window range. Central 3-panel door with fanlight has moulded stone
architrave and keyblock. Sash windows with glazing bars have similar surround to
door. Flat string course between floors and flat ashlar quoins. Moulded wood
cornice with projections highlighting the window heads. 3 hipped roof dormers
with leaded casements and pulvinated friezes. Ashlar gable parapets and ashlar
stacks with moulded cornices at ends. Entrance front to right of main front is
C19 in C17 style with one- to 9-light stone mullion windows with leaded lights
and some transoms. Range to right of centre breaks forward with centre gable
having a tall staircase window. Single-storey porch to left of centre has
arch-head opening flanked by pairs of columns with frieze and entablature above
each. Jacobean style decorations to gables and finials above. Range projecting
to right of entrance front is C19 in similar style with a lean-to half timbered
porch. Garden front to left of main front is C19 in similar style with 4
irregular projecting gables. 6-light stone mullion and transom windows and large
central canted stone bay window. Late C19 conservatory to right. Interior:
entrance hall to centre of main front has C18 staircase with 2 turned balusters
per tread. Room to right has fragments of C18 panelling. Room above has cupboard
door like openwork panelling. Main entrance hall has C19 staircase with heavy
turned balusters.
