Wrongly marked as No 11 on Ordnance Survey map. House. Early-mid C19. Red
brick with stone dressings. Concrete tile roof. L-shaped on plan: 2-room,
central entrance-hall front with wing to rear right. 2 storeys, 3 bays;
symmetrical. Entrance has 2 stone steps with moulded nosings to Ionic
doorcase with pilasters carrying entablature with plain frieze, moulded
cornice and blocking course. C20 part-glazed door and surround. Unequal
15-pane ground-floor sashes with architraves in reveals with sills beneath
channelled and keyed cambered wedge lintels. 12-pane first-floor sashes in
similar surrounds. Wooden modillion eaves cornice with C20 replacement
gutter. Stone-coped gables. C20 rebuilt corniced end stacks. Interior.
Single-flight staircase with moulded handrail, plain balusters, octagonal
newel post and profiled cheek pieces. Ground-floor left drawing room has
moulded dado rail, chimney-piece with detached columns carrying entablature
with dosserets. Good plasterwork details: entrance hall ceiling with
acanthus leaf centre-piece, moulded cornice and frieze with rosettes;
modillioned cornice to upper stairhall, ceiling to ground floor left with
foliate cornice and large ornate centre-piece.
