Courtyard and outbuildings. C18. Brick with pantiled roofs. Brick wall with
brick coping runs north from 1851 block of main house, returns west and south
and links to west wall of house by Courtroom. Interrupted at intervals by
outbuildings. At north-east corner a tack room, originally one storey,
heightened to 2 storeys early C19. Gabled roof. Doors to south side. On
ridge of roof a square hipped cupola. West return elaborated into one storey
gabled outbuilding punctuated on north side by doors and windows. In centre
of south wall a stone wall sundial dated 1722 with predella inscription panel
flanked to left by relief carving of Old Father Time and to right by similar
panel depicting skeleton bearing an hourglass and scythe. Wall returns south
with pair of square gate piers and runs into Courtroom. One storey with
sloping lean to roof. South elevation of 3 bays with cross casement windows
of 2-lights beneath gauged skewback arches. Moulded string course below
parapet with 3 recessed panels. Gabled passageway between this and west wall
of house.
