Public house. Circa 1830. Red brick in Flemish bond. Low pitched
hipped red clay pantile roof with very deep eaves and with lead roll
hipps and ridge. 2 brick axial stacks.
Rectangular double depth plan with two principal front rooms and central
entrance hall with staircase at back.
2 storeys and attic. Symmetrical 3-window south west front with plat
band at first floor and under eaves. Window openings with flat brick
arches, C20 casements on first floor and C20 tripartite sashes on ground
floor. Doorway at centre in round arch double recess, with glazed and
panelled double doors, semi-circular fanlight with radiating glazing
bars and large semi-circular canopy on acanthus console brackets. 3
round-headed dormers with casements. Similar dormers at rear with
glazing bars. Various C20 casements and small outshut on left at rear.
3-bay side elevations with blind windows.
Interior: Some original joinery survives including fielded panel doors
and staircase at back of hall with open string, stick balusters and
moulded handrail wreathed over curtail.
Note: The Saracen's Head was reputedly built as an inn for visitors to
Wolterton Hall (qv).
