6/106 Coldharbour Farmhouse and
attached garden wall
- II
Farmhouse. Early C17, remodelled and extended c.1800. Coursed limestone rubble
with ashlar quoins and some brick dressings and rendering; Welsh-slate roof with
rendered stacks. 3-unit lobby-entry plan, extended. 2 storeys plus attics.
4-window front has entrance to right of centre, with double-leaf panelled doors
and ogee canopy, and has 16-pane sashes, larger at ground floor and all with
brick quoins and segmental brick arches with keyblocks. Roof has boxed eaves and
a large stack in line with entrance. Right gable wall rendered; left gable wall
hits remains of an original ovolo-moulded stone-mullioned window. Double-gabled
rear extension and lower kitchen range to left are probably of c.1800. Rear wall
of main range has traces of stair windows behind stack and has blocked
stone-mullioned cellar windows below a moulded-brick plinth weathering.
Interior: massive internal stack with early C19 fireplaces. One exposed
chamfered beam on carved corbel. Said to have 1625 carved on roof beam. Attached
limestone wall, around 2 sides of garden, includes an arched doorway with large
voussoirs, projecting imposts and a Gothic doorway with blind tracery and
quatrefoils.
