Parish church. 1826-8 by John Dobson; 1900 chancel and organ chamber by Hicks
and Charlewood; early C20 vestry. Squared stone with dressings; purple slate
roofs; shingles on spire. Aisleless nave; west tower with vestry on north;
chancel with organ chamber on north. Early-English style nave; chancel has
Geometrical tracery windows. Angle-buttressed 3-stage tower with pointed
openings including doorway on south and inserted 2-light Geometrical tracery
window on west; embattled parapet with corner pinnacles and narrow octagonal-
plan spire. 4-bay nave with buttressed bay divisions, lancets and steep roof
with coped gable parapets. 3-bay chancel with buttressed bay divisions, sill
string and 2-light windows under hoodmoulds; steep roof with coped east gable
parapet. East end has angle-buttresses with gablets and a pointed 5-light
window under hoodmould. Vestry above basement boiler house: 3-light mullioned
window on west and steep roof hipped over north return. Organ chamber:
buttressed north gable end, shouldered east doorway; steep roof.
Interior: Tall narrow pointed tower arch. Nave: late C19 wood pulpit with
blind Geometrical tracery; late C19 octagonal marble font; tripartite World War
I memorial on south wall; 1982 memorial window to John Edward Joicey by L.C.
Evetts; roof has 5 arch-braced trusses. Chancel: pointed double-chamfered
chancel arch; organ chamber behind similar arch; panelled sanctuary with blind
tracery and cresting; carved reredos with 4 Evangelists in crocketed niches;
compartmented barrel roof with foliage bosses.
