20/29 Garden walls on
east of house
GV II
Garden walls, probably c.1760 with C19 alterations. Internal face brick in
Flemish bond, with 3 spaced courses of yellow brick on north; external faces
coursed rubble with tooled-and-margined quoins. Tall flat-coped north wall has
chimneys for heating system in centre (3) and at ends, disguised as ornate
leafy stone urns. East and west walls ramped down, the latter linking to north-
east wing of house (q.v.). Fielded-panel doors in moulded stone surrounds on
east, north and 2 on west. Lower south wall has pier at west end and gateway
with moulded jambs near east end; flat coping with 3 gadrooned urns, ramped up
at ends. External face of north wall shows 2 furnaces with segmental brick
arches.
Largely-rebuilt terrace wall is not of special interest.
